An interesting note about this town in Dekalb County in the metro Atlanta area is that the Eastern Continental Divide runs through Downtown Tucker.  This means that rain falling to the east of the divide will eventually flow to the Atlantic Ocean, while water flowing to the west, will make its way to the Chattahoochee River and soon enough to the Gulf of Mexico.

“Main Street Tucker” was laid out as a planned railroad town, the city has never formally incorporated, which means that all services, such as fire, police, water, and schools, are provided by Dekalb County.  What is distinctive about Tucker is its housing affordability. Much of the greater Tucker area has older, established neighborhoods, so re-sales remain a vibrant part of the real estate market.

In 2005, the Atlanta Regional Commission issued Tucker a grant to develop a Livable Cities Initiative.  The LCI study will look to re-establish Main Street in Tucker as a central point for the greater Tucker community, and will seek to create a more pedestrian-friendly and interconnected town center by encouraging walking and other modes of transportation around the commercial core.
